Took my heart out for a walk, down the road where all is real.
As a father walks his child, I went to see how he would feel
He was no brat, this heart of mine, he did not kick or fight or squeal
He had big old eyes that seek the light, whose shine no darkness could conceal
And as we passed by every lane
Each one different yet all the same
I told him stories of the thing called Love
That once upon a time it was above.
And it came tumbling down this earth
Looked for hearts as wombs for birth
Hoping not to search in vain
And eager to put to rest his claim
He knocked the doors of those called sane
They kicked it out and called it lame
Till finally rescued from its pain
It found its nest in the insane.
